I was cleaning up my office a few days ago. During the cleanup I found an old floppy diskette as well as an old picture frame that I had taken a picture out of and left sitting in a corner. I was holding the picture frame while thinking about the fact that new techies these days may not ever work with old floppy diskettes anymore. Technology and I go way back to the DOS 2.11 days…

It got me thinking of creating a funny caption to go with the floppy and put into the frame. I typed it up in word and cut the paper down to size and glued on the floppy, put it behind the glass, and whammo! I had a hilarious picture for my office. Simple, but says a lot.
“The Floppy Diskette
(Data storage device)”
It has been there for about three days now and it has generated laugh after laugh from many of my techie colleagues. One comment I often receive from people is “You should have used a 5.25″ floppy diskette” (being that it’s older). My response to them is that I find it funnier to witness the reaction of those people that don’t understand the humor in it being that those same people are probably still using them - storing their most valued documents on them blindly unaware of the slow, small, rare, volatile nature of these dated creatures in light of the options available today.
So if you’re reading this and not sure of the humour inherent in the photo, get rid of all your floppies and buy a USB key! These devices are really only good in a museum. Cheers!
